Challenge from an Alex Jeffrey’s Student
This post is part of Alex Jeffreys Coaching Course the idea was started by Gary Simpson (see his post below – warning watch out for his scary photo! )
http://motivationselfesteem.com/talk/680/the-gazz-man-shares-25-things-that-you-may-not-know-about-him.htm
25 things about myself – very hard to think of so I’m going to copy other peoples ideas.
1) This is a list of all the jobs I have had since I left school:
One year as a temporary assistant chemist.
Sorry it’s not very interesting but that’s it – I started a business during that year and I’ve been self employed ever since.
2) I studied at Durham University for a Physics and Maths Joint Honours Degree
3) I left No.2 after 4 months to go become full time in my mail order business.
4) I was a free lance machine code programmer and some of my games are listed online -I’ve no idea why people spend their time creating sites lie these:

http://www.lemon64.com/?mainurl=http%3A//www.lemon64.com/games/details.php%3FID%3D1487
5) I own a printing company http://www.printpointonline.com
6) I won a business award run by the Daily Express in 1981 (and had my photo on the front page) and would have been on national TV, but the Falklands War started the same time.
7) The town I live in (Whitehaven) was the last place in the UK to be invaded (by the US Navy)
8 ) I have a sister who lives in New Zealand
9) My Mother is also an eBay seller (She sells plants)
10) I learnt to sail when I was 12
11) I was equal top in my schools for A’ Level results and won a cash prize
12) My school had no computers until I ran a campaign and raised funds to get one.
13) When I was young I used to do magic tricks
14) I used to do A’ Level maths exams as a hobby (when I was in the 6th form)
You should try it, it’s great fun!
15) My first business was designing, building, and selling electronic add-ons for computers such as the ZX81
16) My First computer was an Ohio Superboard II
http://oldcomputers.net/osi-600.html
It had no case, only 2k of memory, used a TV as a monitor and a cassette player for storing data.
17) I only passed my driving test 2 years ago
18) I take on all sorts of DIY jobs, my biggest was putting a new roof on our garage.
19) My drawing of our cat was published in the Beano when I was about 8 or 9 and I won 50 pence!
20) I was a member of young enterprise for 2 years.
25) My maths aren’t as good as they used to be!
As there aren’t many students left to tag, and I don’t know who has been and who hasn’t can I change the rules?
I’d like to tag Gary so he has to think of another 25 things (well he did start this)
And take it outside the student group and spread it across the web so I’ve tagged another 5 people from my blog commentators list:
Carol Smith
Randy Smith
John Reed
PJ
Robin Skeen

Hi Keith,
I did tag Gary and he, in no uncertain terms, declined.
Awesome stuff on winning that business award and working on getting a computer for your school!!
I was, note the was, also pretty good at math but lack of use and calculators has made me not as good anymore. Calculators came out, at least in a more commercial sense, when I graduated from high school and they were very expensive. Plus, all they did was simple tasks like division, multiplying, addition and subtraction. We used slide rules instead.
Cheers,
Rod
I have accepted Keith’s Challenge and my list can be found at http://www.stepbystepinternethelp.com
Off now to tag my 5.
Carol Smith

cheer mick
Hi Keith,
I’m impressed with your 25 especially your entrepreneurial streak.
You started very early and successfully.
You are quite a campaigner too. Getting a computer for a school was no mean deed.
And sailing at 12 wow. I first saw a sea at 15.
And your #18 is a head scratcher for me. I tend to avoid DIY as much as I can.
I do very small things just to challenge myself but putting a roof on a garage? I couldn’t pull that off.
Good for you.
Vance
Hey Keith
You got some good things going on there mate, wow you have certainly got some qualifications there.
Mate the adswap was great even got a couple of sales, ended up with about 15 on my list because I had a lot of people opt out. Probably because I sent my list some emails.
Your swap was great Keith speak soon yeah.
cheers
Marcus
Hi Keith,
It never ceases to amaze me with the talent that so many other people have. Yours is no exception. This is a great list full of interesting things…
#6 – I bet that Falklands War really p155ed you off – BAD timing! How dare they start a war right at your moment of glory. Something like that happened to me too – I’ll tell you in a moment.
#8 – the poor thing! Has she become friendly with sheep? (old Oz versus NZ joke – the Kiwis hate it – LOL)
#11 – I’m gonna tie this in with what I mentioned at #6. In Western Australia, we used to have a tradition whereby all the results for end of year “Junior Certificate” high-school exams were published. Every year right up to 1971 they did that. But in 1971 – INEXPLICABLY – they stopped. That was the year that I gained 7 distinctions out of a possible 8 and only just missed out by a couple of percent making it a clean sweep of 8 out of 8.
What a bummer! I was SO disappointed. There must have been a lot of complaints because they recommenced it in 1972 for a few years before dropping it again. Anyway, I worked my guts out trying to make good scores so I could see them published in the paper and I never got to do that, so I KNOW how you feel – LOL!
#14 – I still do all sorts of IQ tests, puzzles, sudoku, crosswords, cryptic crosswords (the occasional chemical equation with valencies etc) etc just for fun. Quite often I will buy these sorts of IQ test books and do the puzzles for pure entertainment – yeah, I know… WEIRD.
Anyway Keith, I very much enjoyed reading your list. One of the reasons I declined doing another list myself is coz I reveal heaps of extra stuff that wasn’t on my original list when responding to other people’s lists – like I did above.
Regards
Gary Simpson

Hey Keith,
I’m not on the course but follow a few of your fellow students, it has been good even as an outsider to find out more about you all.
We had a ZX81 not sure if we ever got it to work can’t remember that far back.lol
I rememer joining the Beano fan cub and getting a Gnasher badge, I did also send in a picture but it didn’t get in.
Take it easy,
James Howard
Blimey Keith, that’s putting me on the spot alright!!
Still, if others can do it I’ll have a bash – not that there’s everything left in the old memory banks now so I may have to get my wife to dredge up a few – she seems to recall a lot of things that i can barely imagine ahppenning – can’t they all – haha!! I do remember spending a night sleeping on an old Reindeer skin in Copenhagen Railway station…… but hey, mustn’t give them all away or I’ll never get up to 25!!
John
Hi Keith,
I’ve been ‘exploring’ your blog a bit and have found it to be VERY INTERESTING! I can not believe that I haven’t been here before! I chuckled at you math comment…pretty sneaky (how you got from 20 to 25), but I wish that I would have thought of that little trick!
You have had a quite an impressive life there, Keith…and I can see that you are on your way to a VERY SUCCESSFUL LIFE!
I wish you the very best, Keith-take care,
Joann
@Rod
Great minds think alike then
I did have a calculator at school, but we werent allow to use them in exams. Incredible that you can get them for £1 now!
@Carol
Congratulations on getting your 25 up so fast.
@Mike
Yes, the US navy still come here, I think it’s once a year.
Can’t remember any Magic now, but maybe if I read my books I could do a couple.
@Vance
The garage took me 6 months! We had the old roof removed as it was asbestos, then found the main beam was rotten so that went too. I tried to get quotes, but people didnt turn up so just did it myself in the end. Once I got started it was mostly done in a couple of weekends though.
@ Marcus
Thanks for being my first adswap JV, I’m sure we’ll do more in the future and if anyone else wants to do one please contact me. Anyone who is an Alex Jeffrey’s student should read the thread in there.
@ Gary
Thanks – you have managed to drag some interesting facts out of us shy students
Yes, very dissappointing when somebody ruins things for you.
In my case I blame Margeret Thatcher
I’ve moved away from doing puzzles – my challenge now comes from programming, and of course internet marketing (that’s a really tough one)
@ John
I bet your wife will know at least 25 embarrassing things about you that you can post
@ Joanne
I thought I might get away with my little numbering trick
@Everyone
Thanks to you all for commenting
Keith
Hey Keith,
wow – you’ve got a rack full of skills there mate.
It’s no wonder you seem to be busy in so many different areas.
It looks like you did the right thing leaving uni when you did.
I don’t suppose you have any regrets over that?
Anyway – great list.
Andrew.
Hi Keith,
I’ve been a little busy fighting a virus on the pc (as you know)
But I will get around to this next week and post back here to let you know I’ve done it

Hi Keith,
A very interesting list there, you’ve got quite a portfolio of qualifications there, Keith.
Your printing company looks good, you must be very organised to find time for everything.
I think I’m going to sign up for you free backlinks generator, this is something you created yourself I think you said in another post?
Lastly, I will be attending Lee Mcintyre’s Manchester workshop in a few weeks, so I look forward to meeting you there.
Paul.
Hi Keith
Been on extended leave for some time and just noticed the “challenge” – sorry!
Will put my thinking cap on and see what I can come up with – your suggestion of looking at other’s ideas will be a must with me!
I’ll be back!!
Cheers
pj
Thanks everyone for posting.
Look forward to reading Randy’s & PJs lists.
Paul – see you in Manchester, it’s going to be great with Alex being there as well.
